Today’s Pearcy’s Case Study

Symbol Group Retailer of the Year: Chooses DC Payments

“Having the ATM in store ensures our loyal customers don’t have to go elsewhere for free cash – and with more money in their pocket, their spend with us is likely to increase. It also encourages new customers to visit us, giving them an opportunity to see the range of stock we carry, and experience our customer service for themselves. Once they’re through the door, it’s up to us to convert them into a regular shopper!”

Fran Pearcy, Owner, Today’s Pearcy’s

While Today’s Pearcy’s had never had an ATM, many customers took advantage of the store’s popular cashback service, available for a fee of £1 per transaction. However, when the nearby Co-op offered a free to use ATM, staff found customers were increasingly asking when an ATM would be available onsite. Listening to customer feedback, Fran and Ernie made the decision to install a cash machine, and entered negotiations with a national supplier. Having cleared valuable space to accommodate the unit, they were let down at the last moment, and the space remained empty for some time. With their plans temporarily on hold, the couple attended the Today’s Group Member awards dinner at Stoneleigh Park to accept their award as Symbol Group Retailer of the Year. The event is held ahead of the Group’s annual exhibition, and the store owners took the opportunity of visiting the DC Payments stand to research their options further. Impressed with the range of hardware and service packages available, they asked us to work with them and resolve their ATM issue.

The solution

Discussing their requirements, we ascertained that the principle objectives they wanted from an ATM were to ensure existing customers did not have to go elsewhere to access cash at no charge, and to encourage new customers visits.

We installed a free to use ATM which currently operates on a self-fill basis, using cash recycled from the business. The ATM is fully maintained by DC Payments and serviced regularly to ensure performance and uptime are optimised.

The ATM has only recently been installed, but customers at Today’s Pearcy’s no longer have to pay even a surcharge to access their cash – and there’s no need for them to have to visit a competitor store. Besides the benefits arising from customers having more cash in their pockets, the ATM is drawing in new customers who get to see the extensive product range on offer, and experience the difference that Today’s special brand of customer service can make to a shopping experience.

Based on the high volume of cashback transactions conducted before the machine was installed, Fran and Ernie have high expectations that it will soon reach the criteria required to become fully managed by DC Payments.
